The subject of conversation (English, German, Russian, Spanish) – is included in all study programmes and fields of study in the follow-up Master’s studies. Therefore the following note applies to all.
Subject: English, German, Russian, and Spanish conversation is designed for:
1. Students who want to travel abroad (e.g. in terms of Erasmus programme); these students are to sign up for the subject for the term preceding the travel.
2. Students of the follow-up Master’s studies according to the capacity of the Department of languages.
Students can sign up for the subject only once during their studies at FEI (Bachelor’s + Follow-up Master’s). The number of students who can sign up for this subject will be limited by the capacity given Department of Languages. Students travelling for a study stay abroad have always preference, and then students of follow-up Master’s studies. The lessons must be always arranged for individually at the Department of Languages.
Subjects of Business English 1 and 2 – is included in all study programmes and fields of study of the full-time follow-up Master’s studies. The following note therefore applies to all.
A student studying at FEI (Bachelor’s + Follow-up Master’s) may sign up for the subjects of Business English 1 and 2 only once.
There is a condition listed in the report from RSP held on 27 Nov 2014 saying that shall a student in his/her follow-up Master’s studies sign up for both FA 1 and 2 (Business English 1 and 2) and conversation, credits that will be counted into the overall 120 credits will be counted from either FA 1 and 2 or conversation.
Based on this condition, a note will be added to all study programmes and fields of study in the full-time follow-up Master’s studies.
Shall a student in his/her follow-up Master’s studies sign up for both FA 1 and 2 (Business English 1 and 2) and conversation, credits that will be counted into the overall 120 credits will be counted from either FA 1 and 2 or conversation.
Amendment:
If a student selects more from all mentioned subjects (apart from FA or conversation where the condition was added), it will not be monitored whether to count these into the overall 120 credits. Such issue has not been discussed at any of the RSP or KD meeting.
If Departments wish to monitor for such situations, I recommend to create their own note for the given field of study. It is necessary to have some written statement in case of a students’ complaint.
System Edison cannot monitor for credits that are not counted into the overall 120 credits (180 credits in Bachelor’s studies). Therefore, it is up a particular Department to monitor for such situations.
It is also necessary to make sure that students do not sign up for subjects already completed in their Bachelor’s studies (Introduction to Technical Correspondence, Conversation, Business English 1 and 2). The decision of the Council of Edison is as follows – do not introduce subjects of the same number in both Bachelor’s and Master’s studies. Introducing different number in the follow-up Master’s studies for the same subject would not resolve anything – still, we would need to monitor it manually, and what is more, a duplicity could be created.
