The study program foresees the acceptance of three various types of applicants. The first type consists of graduates of the bachelor’s electrical engineering study program with qualifications to perform medical occupations. These are hereinafter identified as BMT type applicants (Biomedical Technician). The second type of applicant consists of graduates of a low-current field of the electrical engineering study program (e.g. fields of Measuring and Controlling Equipment, Control and Information Systems, Automation, Telecommunications Equipment, Electronics), who are hereinafter identified as non-BMT type applicants. The third type of applicant consists of graduates of one of the bachelor’s medical fields with qualification to perform medical occupations (e.g. Paramedic, Radiology Assistant), who are hereinafter identified as non-BMT RA type applicants.
The adequacy of a program other than BMT type is determined by the requirement for graduates to pass a field of study within which they acquire expertise in the area of electrical engineering approximately in the scope defined by the Methodical Instruction in the Czech Ministry of Health Bulletin, volume 10, 2010 in point 3 Technical subjects ensuring education of an electrical engineering focus, or that applicant pass study programs within which they acquire expertise in the area of medicine and healthcare in the scope defined by the Methodical Instruction of the Czech Ministry of Health Bulleting, volume 10, 2010 in point 6 Basic medical subjects pursuant to Section 3 of Decree No. 39/2005 Coll. point 7 Medical subjects.
For Non-BMT type applicants, there are block of mandatorily optional subjects which contain primarily the necessary technical and medical subjects, which they generally lack in the required scope from previous studies. In the study plan, these subjects are identified as mandatorily options (PV) and non-BMT students are obliged to sign up for the entire set for the group of designated mandatorily optional subjects. It is assumed that for graduates in electrical engineering, it will be necessary to add only the medical and healthcare subjects, and for graduates of medical fields it will be necessary to add only the electrical engineering subjects, so that the selection and content of the subjects meet the minimum requirements for expertise of the graduate of biomedical engineering pursuant to Act No. 96/2004 Coll., Czech Ministry of Health Decree 39/2005 Coll. (specification in the Czech Ministry of Health Bulletin, volume 10, points 3, 6 and 7, year 2010) and the Czech Ministry of Health Decree No. 55/2011 Coll.

• The subject Security in Electrical Engineering will be conducted in block form at the start of the winter semester. The timetable will be made available on the web pages of the Faculty at the beginning of September. The subject is registered by all students mandatorily; after testing their expertise, the students are notified pursuant to Section 4 of Decree No. 50/1978 Coll. and can perform activity on electrical equipment and FEI laboratories.
• To pass to the 2nd year, it is necessary to acquire at least 40 credits in 1st year subjects in the given academic year.
• Detailed instructions for signing up subjects for OSP can be obtained from the field department or from the web pages of the said department.
• Students choose mandatorily optional subjects with a focus according to their complete bachelor’s programs (fields).
• The field department is the Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering.
• All registered subjects including optional ones become binding on the day of signing up.
• The subjects Practical Experience - Diagnostic devices (total duration 40 hours), Practical Experience - Therapeutic devices (total duration 25 hours) and Practical Experience - Laboratory devices (total duration 15 hours) are taken by students after completing courses in the summer semester and before commencing courses in the summer semester of the following year, on the date they individually sign up for during the summer semester. Experience is conducted under the supervision of mentors at selected medical workplaces. The subject make be taken only by students who prove via the appropriate document (vaccination card, medical confirmation) that they have undergone mandatory vaccination against hepatitis B. Vaccination must be applied between 2 to 12 months before starting the subject. Vaccination is a condition for performing experience in treatment and non-medical activities at healthcare facilities.
• The lessons in the summer semester of the second year take place only for 10 weeks.
• Planned excursions are part of the study plan.

In addition to the mandatory subjects, the study plan also prescribes a specific range of mandatorily optional subjects for the applicants, through which various types of applicants supplement their expertise so that the total composition of passed subjects meets the requirements of Decree No. 39/2005 Coll. and the listed methodical instructions.
• For Non-BMT type applicants, this selection contains primarily the necessary technical and medical subjects, which they generally lack in the required scope from previous studies.
• This block of study subjects is mandatory for students from other bachelor’s programs than Biomedical Technician. This block is designated for students with an electrical engineering basis from bachelor’s study.
• For Non-BMT RA type applicants, this selection contains primarily the necessary technical and medical subjects, which they generally lack in the required scope from previous studies.
• This block of study subjects is mandatory for students from other bachelor’s programs than Biomedical Technician. This block is designated for students with a medical basis from bachelor’s study.

• This block of mandatorily optional subjects is designated for graduates of the Biomedical Technician subject. Students choose at least four subjects in this block of study subjects.
• The chosen sequence of mandatorily optional subjects may be:
Direction B1: Virtual Bio-instrumentation in Biomedical Engineering, Application of Microcontrollers in Biomedical Engineering, Mobile Information Management Technology and Systems and Technologies for eHealth.
Direction B2: Human Biomechanics, Basics of 3D Modelling and Additive Production, Research Methods and Biocybernetics. A combination of subjects in the offered compositions of mandatorily optional subjects in directions B1 and B2 is not permitted. When studiing direction B1 or B2, it is possible to choose subjects outside the selected direction.

• Detailed instructions for signing up mandatorily optional subjects for OSP can be obtained from the field department.
• The field department is the Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering.
When signing up for studies, the students will be assigned to the given study plan of mandatorily optional subjects, based on their prior bachelor’s studies, always by the guarantor of the program of Biomedical Engineering. Assignment to a study plan by the guarantor ensures that each student registered in the program passes the studies whilst fulfilling Act No. 96/2004 Coll. - Act on non-medical healthcare occupations, as amended, including its implementing legal regulations, and Decree No. 39/2005 Coll., as amended, which stipulates the minimum requirements for the study program Biomedical Engineering.

• In the winter and summer semester, the offer of optional subjects includes Master’s Project 1 and Master’s Project 2. If the student chooses MP1, they must also sign up for MP2. In both subjects, students in groups solve an extensive specialised project, depending on which specialisation they are studying. In the summer semester in MP2 they then defend the project.
• Second-year students in the summer semester sign up for optional subjects from the second year offer.
• Here students choose subject based on their specialisation, so that the resulting number of credits from mandatory, mandatorily optional and optional subjects is at least 120 credits.
