Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

After completing this subject, students will be able to understand and apply the following skills and topic areas: - principles of structural analysis with respect to the modeling of loads; - reliability assessment of structures using the partial factors method; - calculation and modelling of permanent actions, imposed loads for buildings, snow and wind loads, thermal actions, actions induced by cranes and machinery actions during execution and accidental actions; - combination of actions.

Teaching methods

Project work

Within the framework of the subject “Actions on Building Structures”, the students will learn about the load calculation procedures and their subsequent introduction into the global analysis of the structure. Detailed information, including practical examples, is given for typical actions on building structures, i.e. permanent actions, imposed loads for buildings, wind loads and snow loads. Acquired knowledge and skills are a prerequisite for the students to be able to design and assess the load-bearing building structures.
