Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

To apply the acquired knowledge of the general chemistry to the system of elements. To learn working with the periodic table – to be able to deduce the bonding possibilities and the basic chemical and physical properties on the basis of the electron configuration of the respective element. To use the thermodynamic formulation of the oxidation state stability for the assessment of the oxidation-reduction reaction process. To learn to utilize the reaction schemata of the particular groups for the assessment of the possibility of the production of the respective element and its compounds.

Summary

General inorganic chemistry – the relation between the chemical bonding, structure, and the physical and chemical properties of the inorganic compounds. The bindings and stereochemistry of the covalent compounds. The bindings and structure of the solid metallic and ionic matters. Acids, bases, and ions in the aqueous solutions. Oxidation, reduction, and thermal properties of the inorganic compounds. The thermodynamic stability of the oxidation states – Frost’s diagrams. Acidobasic and oxidation-reduction reactions in the molten salts and oxide melts. The acidity, basicity, and oxidation ability of the oxide melts. Systematic inorganic chemistry of non-metals of the p-elements; and metals of the p, s, d, f-elements according to the particular groups. The general properties, electron configuration, binding possibilities, typical compounds, preparation, production, and application in the technical practice.
