Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the course is to describe banking system in the European
union and in particular in the Czech Republic. The major attention is
paid to commercial banking area. When passing through the course, the
students should be able to explain the core funcitons of banking sector,
distinguish among particular banking systems, operations and products.

Summary
This subject is devoted to description of bank system in the Czech Republic
and in the world with concentrate on commercial banks and their position in
concrete economy. After passing this subject students will be able to
describe base of individual bank operations and compare individual bank
products from the aspect of revenue, liquidity and analyze and compare on
the basis of chosen criteria such bank products that are intended for
project financing.

1. Banking sector. Banking systems in the world – types, formal description, examples (USA, Eurozone, UK, CZ, China).
2. Central bank. Its function in the economy (macro and micro). Basic models in the world.
3. Commercial and investment banking. Foundations, development, and trends. Basic legal norms. The consequences on the system of bank management.
4. Balance sheet, profit and loss statement. The sources of equity, its function.
5. Products and services (EU, US, CZ, China).
6. Liabilities.
7. Assets.
8. Credit risk (sources and management).
9. Payment systems – national, international, clearing. Money transfer (e.g. WU).
10. Check, bill, debit card, credit card. New trends.
11. Direct banking, e-banking. New trends.
12. Savings bank, credit union.
