Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will be able to: • to explain the basic concepts related to forming and casting technologies, • clarify the influence of forming on the properties and structure of the material, • explain the basic laws of plastic deformation, • describe the basic tools, machines and principles of hot forming, cold forming, material cutting, sheet metal drawing, bending, casting, unconventional forming and plastics processing. They will get: • an overview of the principles and technical terminology of the main production methods – forming and casting technologies, • an overview of the basic technological processes of production used in engineering production, which is necessary for understanding modern production technologies. They will be able to: • choose suitable materials and master the methodology of creating technological procedures for the production of simple components, including basic calculations.

Summary

Discover the world of materials processing. This course introduces you to the principles of two key manufacturing methods - forming and casting technologies. You will not only learn the technical terminology, but also understand how the basic tools and machines that are key to these processes work. Together, we'll explore the principles of creating processes for making simple parts, where you'll gain the knowledge you need for real-world practice. If you are interested in how to shape materials into the form that powers the world around us, this course is the right choice. The outcome of the course is the ability to independently design technological processes for the manufacture of components by forming or casting, as a means of implementing technical solutions, whilst also assessing their practical applicability.
