Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic principles of geodetic surveying, the instruments used, and methods for determining angles, directions, and distances. Particular attention is paid to the measurement of horizontal and vertical angles, the use of theodolites, the determination of magnetic and gyroscopic directions, and direct and indirect methods of distance measurement, including electro-optical distance measurement. The course also covers the basic assessment of the accuracy and correctness of measurements, sources of errors, and the processing of measured quantities.

Summary

Professional knowledge of the principles and methods of measuring horizontal and vertical angles, directions, and distances; the properties and applications of basic surveying instruments; and the principles of direct, indirect, magnetic, gyroscopic, and electro-optical measurement. Knowledge of the fundamental principles of assessing measurement accuracy and the effects of errors on measurement results. Professional skills in planning and carrying out basic surveying measurements, operating a theodolite and other surveying instruments, checking measurement accuracy and correctness, and performing basic processing and evaluation of measured data. General competences to select an appropriate measurement procedure, independently assess the quality of the results obtained, and solve basic surveying problems in practical situations.
