Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The course focuses on the evaluation of building structures according to Eurocodes standards on the ultimate limit state. The purpose of this course is to introduce students with the problems of loading, design and dimensioning of load-bearing structures. Students learn the principles of the theory and design a comprehensive and consistent information about problems of design of reinforced concrete, steel and timber structures. In this course the student also has the opportunity to acquire basic skills at work with professional software applications used in computer modeling of building structures

Subject syllabus:
1. Load and environmental effects on buildings. Idealization of the load reflected in the standards. Characteristic load values. Constant load, variable (utility). Modeling the effects of static load. Combining the effects of static load. The effects of local load (on each part) and global (for construction as a whole).
2. Variable loads (wind, snow), extreme - for information. Modeling the effects of static load. Dynamic loading - principles (information).
3. Fundaments, history and use of concrete, basics of reliability and limit states. Physical and mechanical properties of concrete, working diagrams, interaction between concrete and reinforcement.
4. Design bended members. Slab, beam.
5. Structural Reinforcement bended and compression members. 6. Advantages and disadvantages of steel structures. Application of the steel structure construction. Physical and mechanical properties of steels. Technological properties of steels. Types of steel members in construction. Steel assortment. Basis of theory and reliability of steel structures. 7. Advantages and disadvantages of timber structures. Application of timber structures in the construction industry. Physical and mechanical properties of timber -based materiále. Timber assortment.
