Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

After passing the course, the graduate will be able to analyse independently the submitted specialised texts in the area of water supply, to divide them chronologically into specialised areas. Subsequently, he/she will be able to make elementary analyses of risk areas dealing with the engineering infrastructure in the field of water management and their potential effects on the public infrastructure of territorial units. As needed, on the basis of pursuing this course, he/she will be able to prepare independently crisis preparedness plans for subjects and to participate in preparation of crisis plans for regions and self-governing territorial units. As well, he/she will be able to evaluate and propose the methods of fire safety design for built-up areas, individual premises, and to define the weaknesses and strengths of distribution systems in relation to the supply of water for firefighting.

Summary

Solving the issue of security of fire water supply from water supply systems. In the basic scope, it defines the strengths and weaknesses of these multi-purpose sources of fire water for built-up areas of cities and municipalities and at the same time addresses the issue of fire water supplies from internal and fire water mains for industrial and commercial areas, industrial zones. A comprehensive overview of the issue so that the information obtained can be used in real practice.

1. Purpose and importance of water mains. Types of water mains, pressure zones. Industrial and fire water mains. Basic concepts in water management. 2.Legal framework on the use and operation of water supply systems. 3. Water needs, determination of needs for the population, industry, agriculture and fire purposes. Uneven water consumption. 4. Water accumulation, safety water accumulation, reservoirs, capacity possibilities of fire water consumption. 5.Dimensioning of water connections, dimensioning of water meters. Combined solutions for fire water consumption. 6. Pumping and transport of water, used equipment, pumping stations, water treatment plants, hydrophore stations, their application possibilities and risks to ensure the amount of fire water. 7. Fire water sampling points, their meaning, function and integration into the system of water supply networks. Risks of use in relation to water quality. Capacity possibilities of fire water abstraction points at maximum abstractions in relation to the dimension of the water supply network, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic water pressure. 8. Internal fire water distribution, design, use, tests, risks of failure in case of fire. Practical exercises in various hydraulic and hydrostatic conditions of water supply systems. 9. High-pressure distribution of drinking water, capacity parameters, positives and negatives when used in high-rise urban development, combination options in case of fire intervention. 10.Crisis states, emergency solutions. Application possibilities of ensuring fire safety in the event of a failure of water sources, disruption of water supply networks, elimination of accumulations, deteriorated water quality or declaration of drinking water as useful. 11. Integrated rescue system, system options, its management and forms of cooperation with water companies. 12.
