Summary
The aim of the course is to provide students who didn’t graduate study programme Fire Protection and Industrial Safety, basic professional information in the field of fire protection and industrial safety. The course is divided into two parts, as follows:
Fire safety of buildings (PBS). Its mission is to prevent loss of life and health of persons and also property losses. It means to create conditions for the safe evacuation people from a burning building, create conditions to avoid the spread of fire inside and outside the building and also create of conditions for effective intervention by the fire brigades. Construction of the building must be designed to the effects of fire.
Safety of Technological Process. The course is aimed at deepening the knowledge to prevent major accidents in selected technological processes. In relation to identifying sources of risk and quantitative risk assessment, the emphasis is on approaches to risk reduction - an assessment of security measures at the various technological processes. Safety barriers can be divided into technical and organizational measures, another view of the active, passive or requiring human intervention. Also assessing the reliability of human error and the possibility of human error as the cause of the accident are included to the study subject.

Subject syllabus:
The aim of the subject is to furnish the students who are not graduates in the given field with basic professional information on the area of fire protection. The subject is divided into the following two parts:
Fire Safety of Buildings. The aim is to prevent casualties and personal health damage and property losses or damages. It is especially the case of forming conditions for safe evacuations from burning or fire-endangered buildings, preventing the spread of fire inside as well as outside the building and forming the conditions for effective operations of fire fighting brigades. The constructional part of the building must be dimensioned to fit expected fire effects. The core of development of the given field is the specification of expected fire effects and the determination of optimum fire preventive measures, which includes the prevention of fire origin and development, the determination of fire risk of a fully developed fire, the dimensioning of building members and construction systems to the presupposed thermal load, the optimisation of fire preventive measures, spreading of combustion products in a building, person's movements in the course of evacuation, conditions for fire spreading outside of a building, fire-fighting routes and conditions for efficient fire-fighting operations.
Safety of Technological Processes. The subject focuses on deepening the knowledge of the area of major accident prevention in the case of chosen technological processes. In relation to risk source identification and quantitative risk assessment, emphasis is put on the approach to risk reduction – evaluation of safety measures in specific technological processes. Safety barriers can be divided into technical and organizational measures, in other respects into active, passive and requiring human action. The subject also includes the assessment of
human factor reliability, when human errors are decisive causes of accidents. Assessment methods are above all analyses of risks, e.g. release of hazardous materials, fire and explosion. Furthermore, the subject deals with the problems of properties and technical-safety parameters of gases and vapours of flammable liquids and their applications in safety practice. Principles of safety in the storage, production and transport of flammable liquids. Hazard assessment and prevention in the course of basic physical processes – heating, drying, rectification. Specific causes of failures of reactors on the basis of their classification, assessment of the chemism of technological processes from the point of view of safety and reliability. Analysis of specific exothermic and endothermic chemical processes (polymerisation, dehydrogenation). Methods for the identification of hazards (risk sources) of technological processes. Safety studies, the importance and the method of processing.
