Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will be able to understand basic operations in chemical industry with regart to occupational health and safety and major accident prevention. Student will get orientation in various branches of chemical industry.

Teaching methods

Summary

Chemical industry and its societal importance. Basic processes in chemical industry: transport, storage, separation processes (heterogeneous mixture separation and homogeneous mixture separation), mixing, chemical reactor, heat exchange. Basic inorganic production, basic organic production, biotechnology. Safety in chemical industry, OSHAS, effects of dangerous chemicals.

Subject syllabus:

Chemical industry and its importance for society and economy. Elementary processes and devices – transport, milling, mixing, solubility. Separation processes – crystalization, separation of solids from liquids and gases, destilation, sorption processes, membrane processes. Cooling and heating. Batch and continous reactors. Production of inorganic compounds, fertilizers, metallurgical chemistry, petrochemistry, polymers, biotechnology. Raw materials, economics of chemical industry, environment, safety issues. Safety as management systém.
