Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the subject is to give students of the follow-up master study basic knowledge and skills in the field of burning and explosion. It is essential that the subject graduate understands the risk of fire and explosion in the process industry and is equipped with the necessary knowledge to minimize this danger.
After completing the course, the graduate will be able to define the risk of explosive atmosphere and apply appropriate measures leading to its elimination. Understanding the possibility of initiating explosive files in production processes to be able to apply preventive measures to eliminate them. Based on the analysis and evaluation of the fire and explosion hazards, the student will be able to define appropriate measures to limit the possibility of fire and explosion flame spread. Students will be able to apply acquired knowledge to selected technological processes, their risks and possibilities of preventive protection.

Summary
The subject deals with the process of burning and explosion of a mixture of flammable gases, vapors of flammable liquids, mists and flammable dusts. Furthermore, the accompanying phenomena that precede or follow explosive transformations (both chemical and physical) are discussed. The course explains the propagation of pressure waves and their effect on the environment under various working conditions. The impacts of dangerous concentrations and evaluation of initiation sources are evaluated together with the possibility of using software tools. The course is complemented by practical examples and case studies from history.
