Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal is to understand the system of protection of nuclear facilities in the area of comprehensive security, their interdependence and risks resulting therefrom. These include the following: The basic physical information about nuclear energy, radioactivity and ionizing radiation interact with matter. Fission, prompt and delayed neutrons, moderators, the fission reaction kinetics. The basic objectives and principles of nuclear safety and radiation protection. Control of the fission chain reaction, providing protective barriers as part of the concept of defense in depth, and deterministic and probabilistic approach to the evaluation of nuclear safety. Current status of nuclear energy in the world and the basic types of nuclear power reactors, reactors and construction principles used in the CR, other types of nuclear facilities and their characteristics in terms of safety. Active and passive safety systems, control systems and management, emergency response systems. Safety culture and human factors, feedback from operational events. Radiation protection quantities and units, terminology, biological effects of ionizing radiation, nuclear reactor as a source of radiation. Radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Radiation accidents and disasters.
