Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
To increase students' already acquired knowledge in the subject "Explosives and the effects of explosions" in the bachelor's study program by other issues related to the application of explosives in industry and the military. Emphasize the possibilities of their insidious use in booby-trapped explosive systems. Apply elements of ensuring safety when working with explosives from the practical activities of persons who work with them. Substantially broaden the horizons of students in their orientation in this issue of safety pyrotechnics, emphasize the possibilities of misuse and illegal production of explosives and categorize safety elements in the protection of persons and property.

Summary
The topic builds on the already acquired knowledge in the subject "Explosives and the effects of explosions" in the bachelor's study program. Students get acquainted with the range of terms used in teaching, for their orientation in this area. Explain concepts such as - suspicious object, dangerous object and improvised explosive device (IED), clarify their purpose, composition, intrigue, effects and construction of individual elements. Analyze the initiation systems and representatives of explosives used in the construction of IEDs. Discuss the protective equipment of persons, especially heavy pyrotechnic suits, used mainly for identification, handling and disposal of IEDs. As part of the means for identification, discuss X-rays as a basic means of detecting IEDs, the types of its imaging capabilities of organic and inorganic substances, suspicious and dangerous objects and other components of IEDs. To acquaint students with the means for manipulation, verification and elimination of IEDs, remote ignition jammers and destructive devices. Clarify the detection of IEDs and explosives using cynological services, discuss the basics of forensic pyrotechnics, the importance of expert work in identifying traces and their preservation, state methods and procedures for identifying offenders - IED designers, types of pyrotechnic work and conditions for disposal of found ammunition. Emphasize preventive and safety pyrotechnic inspections of premises, objects and persons and state the means for their implementation. Discuss the typical activities of IRS units when finding an explosive, or IED, when using a radiological weapon and storing the explosive, or IED in an aircraft.

Subject syllabus:
1. Distribution and effects of explosives, their characteristics and possibilities of using these substances in the construction of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
2. Availability and improvised production of explosives for their possible use in IEDs. Terrorist attacks committed using improvised IEDs.
3. Effects of explosion on the environment, factors of explosion, their manifestations and wounding, concepts - work ability, brisance of explosives and their practical determination.
4. Directed and cumulative effect of explosive charges, principle and mechanism of accumulation, composition of cumulative current and its practical use in grouting and perforation of materials.
5. Initiation systems used in the construction of improvised explosive devices, their characteristics, purpose, effects and structural composition of these bait systems. Detonators, igniters, detonators and materials used for the direct detonation of explosives. Non-electric and electric ignition networks, their design and calculation.
6. Means for identification - laboratory demonstration of detection of organic and inorganic substances in safety X-rays, display of explosives and other components of IEDs, dangerous and suspicious objects, demonstration of various functions and imaging options on the X-ray monitor.
7. Means for handling, testing, killing and disposal of improvised explosive devices. IED remote detonators, the principle of destructive devices for the destruction of IEDs by firing with a shotgun, a water sniper and weapons based on the creation of a cumulative water jet, the so-called "water bomb".
8. Means used to protect persons. Pyrotechnic protective suits, removable handling equipment, explosive containers for the transport of explosives, remotely controlled manipulators, examples of pyrotechnic robots, their equipment and technical possibilities.
9. Types of pyrotechnic works. Distribution of ammunition and imitation equipment. Search, removal and disposal of found unexploded ordnance and explosives.
10. Preventive and safety pyrotechnic inspections of premises, buildings and persons - means for their implementation. Possibilities of canine service in searching, detection of explosives and IEDs.
11. Basics of forensic pyrotechnics. Forensic expertise, identification of traces and their preservation after the explosion, methods and procedures for the identification of perpetrators - IED designers.
12. Typical activities of IRS units in the detection of explosives, improvised explosive system, bait system combined with CBRN substances - the so-called "dirty bombs", "high-volume charges" in the car and the detection of explosives stored in the aircraft. Determination of the quarantine zone at the airport and the possibility of identifying IEDs in baggage.
