Summary

The subject Radiation Protection is devoted to the physics of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. The basis is the definition of types and sources of radiation, including the possibility of their use, detection and shielding. Part of the course is focused on radiation protection in accordance with applicable legislation in national and international terms.

Subject syllabus:

Radiation Protection is based on the physics of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation: Nuclear physics, radioactivity, ionizing radiation sources. The basic dosimetric quantities and units. Determination of the radiation load from all kinds of sources of ionizing radiation, shielding, distances, exemption and clearance levels. Goals, principles and methods of radiation protection. Significant terms of the Atomic Code and the Notice on radiation protection. Open sources, internal contamination, radioactive waste management and marketing of radionuclides into the environment. Stochastic and deterministic effects of ionizing radiation. Radiation disasters and accidents. Types, properties, sources, effects and use of non-ionizing radiation and protection systems.
