Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
- Describe, analyse and critically assess professional texts, their quality and relevance
- Distinguish between different genres using practical examples of already published professional texts, identify the main principles of their production and the suitability of their use in different types of publications
- Independently write a professional text presenting own research and its results, prepared for a bachelor or master thesis
- Present effectively the results of own research to an audience, assess and respond to audience feedback

Summary
The course "Writing professional and diploma theses" leads students to practical mastery of the principles, styles and strategies of writing professional texts, and also teaches them how to use some useful tools (citation editors, language correction tools, etc.) In the course, students are encouraged to be able to independently analyze and critically assess already published professional texts, and at the same time to create professional texts themselves. The basis for their work can be, for example, a bachelor's thesis already prepared by them or, on the contrary, a thesis in progress. Students will also pay attention not only to the preparation but also to the various forms of presentation of their professional work.

Subject syllabus:
1. The procedure of scientific work
2-3. Basic genres of scholarly writing, structuring text into chapters, structuring text within chapters, paragraph structure, argument
4-5. Sources of scholarly academic texts (WoS, Scopus, etc.), citation principles, citation managers and other scholarly writing tools
6. Parts of a professional text: literature search, plagiarism
7. Parts of a professional text: introduction, literature search
8. Sub-sections of the professional text: data and methods
9. Sub-sections of the professional text: results, abstract, use of graphs to present results
10. Subdivisions of the technical text: discussion and conclusion
11. Visual editing of the text, creation of infographics to present own research
12-14. Presentation of own research, principles of making presentations, effective communication with audience, feedback
