Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the knowledge in the field of environmental policy, focusing on environmental policy at the international level and the EU level. Students will acquire knowledge of the basic principles and tools applied both internationally and within the EU. The subject of interest in international environmental policy is the development, major environmental and sustainable development conferences, commitments and organizations in this field.

1. Introduction into environmental policy: the environment and its functions, natural resources, definitions, functions, goals, principles of environmental policy, sustainable development and decoupling; 2. Environmental policy tools; 3. Introduction into international environmental policy; 4. The development and current state of international environmental policy; 5. International environmental regimes; 6. Introduction into the EU environmental policy; 7. The development and current state of EU environmental policy; 8. Significant processes and strategies within EU environmental policy; 9. The development and characteristics of the EU Sustainable Development Strategy following the Lisbon Strategy; 10. The EU's approach to tackling climate change; EU greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme.
