Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The course is focused on economic growth and development of countries both from the domestic perspective and from the perspective of their relationship to the global economy. Students will be acquainted with questions related to economic growth and development in the world economy and with methods of analysis of these problems including formulation of economic policies related to economic development. From a practical point of view, students will study the issue of economic growth and development on the example of developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

1. Traditional Economic Growth Theory: Rostow, Harrod-Domar, Solow-Swan Model and New Growth Theory
2. Traditional models and theories of economic development: modernization theory, theory of dependence, theory of dual development
3. Current Economic Development Models: Multiple Balance Approach, "The Big Push" Model, "The O-Ring" Model
4. Problems and policies (domestic perspective): poverty, income inequality and economic development
5. Problems and policies (domestic perspective): population growth and economic development
6. Problems and policies (domestic perspective): human capital - education and health in economic development
7. Problems and policies (domestic perspective): transformation of agriculture and economic development
8. Problems and policies (international perspective): theory of international trade and strategy of economic development
9. Problems and policies (international perspective): foreign finance, investment, assistance and their efficiency for economic development
10. Problems and policies (international perspective): (global) environment and economic development
