Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The graduate:
• knows the specialized terminology and is able to use it,
• understands the time and local determination of important cultural centres,
• distinguishes characteristic signs and marks of art,
• can use information from scientific resources,
• compares artwork according to various criteria,
• is able to work with pictorial material,
• can nominate and locate significant art and museum collections,
• considers artwork and contribution of significant personalities,
• understands relations between the stage of society and art.

Summary
The content of the subject summarizes cultural historical connections of the origin and development of architecture, fine and applied art from primeval times till the present. The main goal is to teach to perceive the continuity of art development with the development of social life and the thinking of society, to introduce fundamental characters of the particular periods and their pieces, which essentially influenced the development of European and even worldwide cultural events. The main emphasis is placed especially on Czech art and cultural trends. The subject supports forming the graduate’s profile for promoting cultural values. The subject has an cross-disciplinary character, the overlaps apply especially to aesthetics, literature, history, philosophy etc.
