Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The graduate: • knows the specialized terminology and is able to use it, • understands the time and local determination of important cultural centres, • distinguishes characteristic signs and marks of art, • can use information from scientific resources, • compares artwork according to various criteria, • is able to work with pictorial material, • can nominate and locate significant art and museum collections, • considers artwork and contribution of significant personalities, • understands relations between the stage of society and art.

Summary

The content of the subject summarizes cultural historical connections of the origin and development of architecture, fine and applied art from primeval times till the present. The main goal is to teach to perceive the continuity of art development with the development of social life and the thinking of society, to introduce fundamental characters of the particular periods and their pieces, which essentially influenced the development of European and even worldwide cultural events. The main emphasis is placed especially on Czech art and cultural trends. The subject supports forming the graduate’s profile for promoting cultural values. The subject has an cross-disciplinary character, the overlaps apply especially to aesthetics, literature, history, philosophy etc.

Introduction to the study - Basic concepts and definitions - Breakdown by type of art, development - The relationship between culture and civilization, society and individuals - Basic expressions of cultural level of society 2. The oldest forms of artistic expression - Prehistoric art in Europe - The art of Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, India, China, ... in terms of application in today's tourism - The art of ancient Greece and Rome - The art of Christian antiquity 3. Romanesque and Gothic Art - Character styles, historical sources of, - Periodization, the most important monuments in Europe, - Representatives of the main directions. 4. Renaissance and Baroque Art - Of historical sources - Basic characteristics - Representatives of the main directions - Periodization, the most important monuments in Europe 5. Rococo, Classicism and Empire - Of historical sources - Basic characteristics - Representatives of the main directions - Year of periodization, the most important monuments in Europe 6. Culture 19th and 20 century - Of historical sources - Romanticism, art nouveau - Realism, impressionism, symbolism, functionalism, cubism - The most important monuments in Europe 7. Culture of the late 20th century - Changes in cultural life after the 2nd World War - New trends in art - The current state of cultural heritage in our country 8. The issue of conservation - Laws on the protection of cultural monuments - National list of cultural monuments - UNESCO and World Heritage List - Reconstruction and use of historical buildings 9. Our folk art - The main ingredients of folk creativity - Main ethnographic area - Open-air museums of folk architecture and ethnographic museum 10. The role of cultural heritage in tourism - Selected regions, urban conservation, conservation areas, monuments - The role and importance of technical monuments - Marketing of the cultural monuments in the current market conditions 11.
