Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course will equip students with the necessary knowledge of political geography, population geography, economic geography and regional geography including the current picture of particular states of the world, and, also, with the remarkable integration efforts. The aim of this subject is to exceed the range of the knowledge about social and economic weight of macroregions of the world and the most development countries.The economic, social and regional geography create the basic orientation for evaluation of economic development from the perspective of the formation of new spatial structures.

Summary

Studium hospodářské geografie patří mezi všeobecně vzdělávací předměty. Její výuka by se měla stát jedním ze základních zdrojů, které pomáhají vytvářet dnes požadovanou všestranně vzdělanou osobnost ekonoma. Především geografie světové ekonomiky, která je její nosnou částí, by měla dát budoucím ekonomům takové poznatky, aby byli schopni kvalifikovaně analyzovat a rozhodovacími postupy ovlivňovat s co nejmenšími negativními dopady prostorovou organizaci zejména ekonomických jevů a procesů. V dnešním světě je oprávněně zdůrazňováno hledisko prostorovosti, které tvoří jednu z důležitých specifik nejen hospodářské geografie, ale i dalších geografických vědních disciplín. Vzhledem k tomu, že hospodářská geografie je vědou založenou na principu komplexnosti a principu heterogennosti, je současně i vědou výrazně interdiscipli-nárního charakteru. Proto část jejích poznatků mohou využívat i ostatní vědní obory, z nichž jmenujme alespoň ekonomické a sociální vědy, ekolo¬gii, demografii, regionální ekonomiku aj. Citelně se na výsledných vlastnostech prostorových struktur (kvalitách relativně komplexních funkčně vztahových záležitostí) podílejí interakční vazby průmyslové a zemědělské výroby a dopravního systému se společností a přírodou. Přestože oblast lidského podnikání nevýrobního charakteru (tj. problematika služeb, nevýrobní sektor) zaznamenává celkově rostoucí vliv na pohyb světové ekonomiky, je zapotřebí si uvědomit, že v globálním měřítku je stále ještě pro většinu státu světa rozhodujícím impulsem hospodářského rozvoje právě průmysl a zemědělství.

Subject syllabus:

1. Development of science, basic theoretical knowledge. Object and subject of interest, contribution of Czech and foreign personalities to the development of geographical sciences. Their functions, approaches, directions. 2. General features of the world economy geography. Position of economic geography in the system of sciences, system approaches and economic landscape, spatial processes in the background of economic relations. 3. Economic relations and landscape sphere. Economy and environment, characteristics of contemporary economic development, economic process and spatial arrangement. 4. Spatial order and meaning of the state. The single world market and the effects of spatial organization, the state system and its economic context, the state as a political-economic system. 5. Regional level of spatial order. Conception of region and regional systems, regionalization and its influence on economic relations, evaluation of regions, their differentiation, regional development and regional policy. From localization theories to the principles of regionalism. 6. Analysis of human resources in geographical view. World population development. Population size issues, natural and migration currencies. 7. Distribution and selected features of the world population. Age distribution of population and differences in aging process. Other significant structural characteristics of the world population. 8. Models of division of the world according to development. Central-peripheral model of the world. The emergence and development of centers of the world economy. Basic characteristics of the core economies of the contemporary world. 9. Europe as an economically strong complex interconnected space. Differences in economic levels of European states. Differences in social environment. Signs of economic cooperation in Europe. 10. Position of the Czech Republic in the World Economy. Natural, economic and social characteristics of the Czech Republic. International position of the Czech Republic and its integration tendencies. 11. Geography of world agriculture. Basic functions, needs and characteristics of agricultural production, crop and livestock production. 12. Geography of industry, industrial structure and development of industrial complexes. Industrialization, the way of progress? Development of the second sector of national economy in the world and in our country. 13. World economic order and integration processes. The importance and role of the UN. Possibilities of economic cooperation in the world. The most important integration efforts in the world. 14. Geospatial view of world economy and possibilities of measuring level of maturity.

Mandatory attendence participation: Participation in exercises is mandatory (exercises are only once every 2 weeks). In the event of serious reasons, it is the student's duty to excuse himself from the exercise in advance and at the same time agree with the course guarantor on how to compensate for the exercise.

Conditions for subject completion and attendance at the exercises within ISP: The granting of credit is conditional upon the submission of tabular and graphic analysis of selected geographic data. Analyzes are performed using an Excel spreadsheet. The second condition is passing the credit test.
