Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The main goal of human geography is to develop and expand students’ spatial understanding and geographical perspective of the social and economic landscape in terms of the location, arrangement and interaction by way of a research report that examines a selected aspect of the world macroregions. My research and teaching interests focus on comparative social, economic and regional development in the world, continents and countries. The basic work has been focused on political geography, population geography, economic geography, regional cooperation and the globalization of the economy and population development.

Summary

Cílem předmětu je poskytnutí základních znalostí o geografickém pozadí světové ekonomiky a rozšíření okruhu znalostí o ekonomické váze jednotlivých regionů světa. Student se seznámí s prvními zákonitostmi a souvislostmi, které vznikají reálně fungujícími interakčními vztahy mezi přírodou, společností a ekonomickými procesy. Socioekonomická geografie jako prostorovědní obor předkládá v obecné rovině možnosti využití teorie o prostorových systémech. Tento kurz předává ekonomům potřebné znalosti z oblasti politické geografie, geografie obyvatelstva, ekonomické geografie, včetně současného obrazu států světa a významných integračních snah.

Subject syllabus:

1. Development of science, basic theoretical knowledge. Object and subject of interest, contribution of Czech and foreign personalities to the development of geographical sciences. Basic directions and approaches of socio-economic geography. 2. Methodology of socio-economic geography. Socio-economic Geography Approaches to Data Acquisition and Processing. Methods of socio-economic cartographic analysis. 3. Introduction to the theory of spatial (geographic) systems. Spatial system and landscape. Spatial goals and value system. Spatial processes and agents of spatial systems development. 4. Development and present of the political map of the world. Spatial order. The importance of the state as a spatial and political-administrative unit. Historical development of state formation. 5. State as a political-economic system. Model of the state classification level. The issue of centralization and decentralization of the state in securing state administration. 6. State and possibilities of human resources. Basic approaches of population geography. Population size in spatio-temporal context. The dynamics of world population growth. 7. Distribution and selected features of the world population. Differences in spatial distribution of the world population. Selected structural features of the world population (age, nationality, religiosity). 8. General features of the world economy geography. Economic activity and primary activity. Structure of land resources. Development of employment in global and regional perspective. 9. Natural resources and industrial sector growth. Industry geography and evaluation of its development, structure and distribution. Development of industrial complexes. Processes of industrialization and deindustrialization in the world. 10. Development of tertiary society. Development of the service sector and its systemic breakdown. 11. Central-peripheral system of the world. Models of division of the world by development. The emergence and development of centers of the world economy. Basic characteristics of the core economies of the contemporary world. 12. Europe as an economically powerful complex interconnected space. Differences in economic levels of European states. Differences in social environment. Signs of economic cooperation in Europe. 13. Position of the Czech Republic in the World Economy. Natural, economic and social characteristics of the Czech Republic. International position of the Czech Republic and its integration tendencies. 14. World economy in geospatial context. The importance and role of the UN. Possibilities of economic cooperation in the world. The most important integration efforts in the world. Possibilities of measuring the level of development of the world states.
