1. Formulate the politics of purchasing and the run of purchasing process. 2. Explain management and regulation of purchasing process. 3. Evaluate the purchasing strategy and its goals. 4. Explain citeria, approaches and methods of supplier selection. 5. Consider the options of purchase organization improvement in organizations.

Teaching methods



The course is focused on explaining the position of purchasing in the system of business functions and analysis of its basic activities. Modern business purchasing includes management, marketing, sales and logistics activities. Key attention is paid within the subject to purchasing categories, purchasing strategies, quality management and supplier selection and evaluation activities. Students will learn about modern purchasing management systems, requirements placed on the buyer and modern trends of purchasing such as electronic auctions.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction to Purchasing - definition of purchasing, supply chain management. 2. Purchasing strategy - a prerequisite for successful purchase, ways of measuring the performance of purchasing. 3. Category management - importance and criticality of categories in purchasing, purchasing matrix. 4. Supplier Quality Management - how to solve quality problems, Total Quality Management. 5. Supplier selection and evaluation - supplier selection process, supplier pool, multi-criteria methods of supplier evaluation. 6. Negotiation and contracting - buyer's experience in solving purchase cases, conflict resolution and the role of team negotiation. 7. Transactional purchasing - traditional purchasing methods, purchasing life cycle methods, linking life cycle theory and purchasing strategies. 8. Relational purchase - Joint development - the role (implementation) of the buyer in the process of new product development - coordination, realization and supply chain design, buyer innovation, vertical integration and quasi-integration of the buyer in the enterprise. 9. Lean, agile and leageable supply chain - basic elements of lean access, inventory management, key elements and measurement of lean access. 10. Measurement of performance in purchasing - Balanced score card - method of measuring performance in the supply chain, criticism of measuring performance of purchasing activities. 11. Abilities and personality traits of the buyer - key skills of purchasing manager, expertise in purchasing. 12. System of remuneration of buyers - creation of system for evaluation of purchasing results, ways of remuneration of buyers, role of monetary reward, importance of payments as motivation tool of employees. 13. Centralization and decentralization of purchasing - global supply in integrated structures, the concept of "pendulum" in purchasing and its application, the structure of purchasing organizations. 14. Global purchasing - success in global purchasing, differences in international and global purchasing. Risk and cost of global purchasing.
