Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

At the end of this course students should be able to: - interpret the causes and economic impacts of environmental degradation - assess the main differences between regulatory and economic instruments, and the advantages and disadvantages of each, - outline alternative methods for valuing non-market environmental goods and environmental damage, - critically evaluate the relationship between economic development and environmental quality, - outline the new economic approach of Ecological Economics.

Lectures

Summary

Environmental economics deals with economic aspects of harming the environment and utilization of natural resources, and approaches to their optimization. The course serves as an introduction to the study of environmental economics and is fundamewntal for further and deeper study of related courses.
