The aim of the course is to educate students on the foundations of the environmental economics, the concepts of sustainable development and sustainability as well as on the alternative theories and approaches concerned with the environment and sustainable development.

Subject syllabus:

Defining the subject, origin, history burglar alarm; • Economics of pollution: the theory of externalities; • Theoretical instruments of environmental policy: administrative instruments, environmental charges / taxes, subsidies, emission permits trading system, voluntary and other instruments; • Optimizing the management of natural resources, renewable and non-renewable; • Decisions and the environment: the issue of discounting; The method of cost-benefit analysis; Other methods; • Sustainability - the theoretical background, the concept of sustainable development, including the development of policy responses; • Sustainability: sustainability criteria and concepts. • Alternative theories and approaches: ecological economics, institutional ecological economics, economics of sustainability. Graphic Applications apparatus utilized in environmental economics; Application of the principles, tools and methods, focusing on the issue of discounting and method of cost-benefit analysis (CBA); Application of indicators in the field of environment and sustainable development with a focus on indicators of individual concepts of sustainability, the use of indicators tracks (Footprint Indicators) and indicator of actual savings (Adjusted Net Saving ANS); case studies.
