Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

•To judge and recommend the basic directions of the local and regional ecological policy in connection with the minimization of negative influences of anthropogenic activity on the environment • To judge and recommend such development of towns which will not endanger the fulfillment of town's main functions, but on the contrary it will contribute to the increase of citizens' quality of life and to the overall attractiveness of the town • To recommend and formulate within the regional ecological policy such utilization of country landscape which will not endanger its ecological stability and renewable quality of natural resources

Summary

The subject acquaints students with the most topical issues of municipal and regional ecological policy in the Czech Republic and their solution in the conditions of membership in the European Union. Students will be informed on the principles of towns' sustainable development, especially on organic waste management and sustainable transport development. The subject furthermore deals with the new trends of rural areas development and sustainable management in the countryside. Attention is paid to the changing importance of forests, a new hierarchy of their functions importance, and to the principles of sustainable management of water and soil.

Subject syllabus:

1. Les jako ekosystém a jeho funkce. 2. Vodohospodářská funkce lesa. 3. Povrchové a podzemní vodní zdroje. Prevence negativních dopadů extrémních hydrologických situací. 4. Environmentální aspekty využívání zemědělské půdy. Konvenční a ekologické zemědělství 5. Koncepce udržitelného způsobu života ve venkovské krajině. 6. Ekologické principy rozvoje města. 7. Environmentální souvislosti dopravy. 8. Udržitelná městská doprava – východisko pro řešení současných dopravních problémů. 9. Strategie nakládání s komunálním odpadem v EU. 10. Úloha obcí a krajů při nakládání s komunálním odpadem v ČR. 11. Městské a vesnické klíma. Využití znalostí o klimatu města pro plánovací praxi. 12. Globální klimatická změna a očekávané dopady na české regiony.
