Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will become familiar with demography as a scientific discipline, verify the possibilities of analytical procedures when working with various demosocial indicators. An important part of the course will be a critical assessment of the role of external influences on population processes and familiarization with the principles and possibilities of population theory and policy in the social system. The concrete results of analyzes of selected phenomena will serve to gain a real idea of the degree of demographic development of the Czech Republic.

Summary

1. The place of demography in the process of cognition. Introduction to demography as a discipline including its focus and structure. Explanation of object and subject of demographic interest. Diagram of demographic cognition process. 2. Explanation of the benefits of the personalities of population and economic sciences and the international background of the study of demographic knowledge. Critical assessment of the historical legacy of demography and its current status. International cooperation and demographic periodicals. 3. Demographic events and approaches to their discovery. Data sources of demographic phenomena. Census, its history and substance. Complexity of nomenclature of demographic events and phenomena. 4. Basic means of demographic analysis. General rules for processing demographic data. The importance of time in demographic analysis. 5. Population structure by sex and age. Model of age pyramid and its types, projection of age composition. The process of population aging and state social policy. 6. Analytical procedures in the study of demographic reproduction. Mortality and morbidity. Mortality table model and life expectancy. The morbidity process and the main causes of the deaths of the Czech population. 7. Fertility and its characteristics. Fertility and fertility indicators. Long-term monitoring of fertility and abortion development in the Czech Republic. 8. Marriage and marriage termination. Analytical procedures for nuptiality studies. Development of nuptiality and divorce rate in the Czech Republic. 9. Overall characteristics of natural reproduction. Evaluation of the development and current state of natural currency in our country. Indicators of natural currency, its regional and global differences. 10. Population estimates and projections. Basic approaches and indicators. Explanation of demographic projection principles. The latest projections of Czech and world population development. 11. Broader conditionality of population development. Other structural features of the population and their impact on demographic behavior. The position of the family in the demographic process. The importance of households and their structural division. The composition of the population by race, nationality, religiosity, sectors and sectors of economic activity. 12. Spatial characteristics of population. Distribution of population and its analysis. The process of population concentration and use of the Lorenz curve. The settlement structure of the Czech Republic and the process of urbanization. 13. Migration and spatial mobility issues. Analyzing migration behavior of the population in our country and in the world. Regional differentiation of migration balance in the Czech Republic in the long term. Overall population growth indicators. 14. Patterns and context of population development. Theory of population development and population policy as part of the state's social policy. Basic cycles of population growth. World population development. The position of the Czech Republic in the demographic development of the world.
