Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

1. To describe integration process in Europe and its influence on goals of economic policy in the EC/EU, 2. To identify the main economic-political goals and explain related tools in different integration stages, 3. To apply knowledge for solution of topical economic-poltical issues of the EC/EU, 4. To analyse economic-political situation in the EC/EU member countries and discuss ways and means for its solutions.

Summary

Subject is concerned with economic policy as a part of the integration process accomplished by EU member states. Essential information on development and institutional organization is summarized in the extent necessary for understanding economic policy mechanisms. Common and coordinated policies are in depth discussed from the point of view of their development within the Communities. The explanation is completed with their impact on the economic policy of the Czech Republic.

Subject syllabus:

1.Objectives of economic policy. Economic, social and territorial cohesion. The Lisbon agenda. Europe 2020. Enlargement versus deepening EU integration. Acquis communautaire. 2.International economic cooperation in a globalized world economy. The position of the European Union in the global economy. The EU and its members in overcoming the symptoms of the economic crisis. 3.Legal, institutional and financial capacity to supranational regulation (governance) and an economic policy in the European Union. The common EU budget. The Lisbon Treaty - the removal of the democratic deficit, subsidiarity. 4.Deepening integration development of the Customs Union to the single internal market. Policy measures needed for its operation. The Single European Act. Tax harmonization. The social aspect of the single internal market. 5.Competition policy and its importance for a single internal market. The issue of cartel agreements, market dominance and state aid to companies. Consumer protection policy. 6.Monetary cooperation in Europe from the 50´s the 90´s. European Monetary System, its operation and effectiveness. 7.Stages of formation of the European Economic and Monetary Union. Common monetary policy. Formation of the Banking Union. 8.Cooperation in the area of ​​fiscal policy. Formation of the Fiscal Union. 9. EU's position in international trade relations. Common commercial policy. 10.The Common Agricultural Policy and its reforms. Politics of Rural Renewal. The Common Fisheries Policy. 11.Common transport policy. Trans-European networks. 12.EU structural policy. EU Structural Funds. Support for small and medium-sized enterprises. 13.Policy supporting research and technological development in the EU. Space Policy. 14.Environmental policy in the EU. Energy policy in the EU. Programme 20-20-20 to 2020.
