Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

1. To describe the development and the state of the art of EU regional policy, its mechanisms, and tools. 2. To explain the methodology and options of the use of EU Funds and other instruments in regional development and their application under the condition of the Czech Republic. 3. To apply the knowledge gained for the solution of issues of EU social and economic cohesion.

Summary

The aim of the course is to introduce students with the basic theoretical and methodological backgrounds of regional development and regional policy, which are subsequently applied to the determinants and setting of regional policy in the selected EU Member States (eg. Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Finland and the Netherlands) and the European Union as a whole. Upon completion of the course, the students are prepared to solve practical problems in the field of the EU Cohesion Policy in the follow-up Master's degree.
