1. Extend English technical terminology related to economic integration. 2. Use the acquired terminology to understand expert texts. 3. Discuss using professional terminology. 4. Demonstrate expanded language skills.

Summary

The aim is to acquire professional terminology pertaining to the issue of economic integration and to practice using it and fix it in the context of understanding professional texts and expert discussions. Seminars are focused at improving language skills so that students are able to communicate and interact with materials in English.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction to Economic Integration. 2. Free Trade Area - EFTA and other major free trade areas in the world. 3. Customs Union - principles and practical cases, non-tariff barriers, BENELUX, EU customs union and other important customs unions in the world. 4. Primary Economic Union - principles and practical cases, labor mobility - country of origin vs. country of destination, European Communities. 5. Developed Economic Union - principles and practical cases, removal of invisible barriers, four fundamental freedoms, common market, EU internal market. 6. Institutional Provision of Economic Integration - EU institutions. 7. Formative Economic and Monetary Union I. - principles and practical cases, monetary integration, costs and benefits, development of European monetary integration. 8. Formative Economic and Monetary Union II. - introduction of a common currency, existence of a common monetary policy, ECB. 9. Complete Economic and Monetary Union I. - principles and practical cases, fiscal integration, fiscal policy, taxes in the European Union. 10. Complete Economic and Monetary Union II. - other common policies. 11. Political Union I. - principles and practical cases, institutionalized forms of political integration. 12. Political Union II. - the future form of political integration in the EU. 13. Global Economic Integration - definition, main topics of global integration, EU in the world. 14. Current Issues of Economic Integration in the World.
