Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
1. To describe the development and the state of the art of EU regional policy, its mechanisms and tools.
2. To explain the methodology and options of the use of EU strustural funds and other instruments in the regional development and their application under the condition of the Czech Republic.
3. To apply the knowledge gained for the solution of issues of EU social and economic cohesion.

Summary
The aim is to familiarize students with the basic configuration and development of regional policy of the European Union and selected Member States. Students will be familiar with the operation of mechanisms and instruments of EU regional policy, the methodology and the potential use of the Structural Funds and other instruments in regional development and their application in the CR and will be prepared to solve problems within the issue of socio-economic cohesion (cohesion) of the European Union in the master's degree level.

Subject syllabus:
1. Introduction to the subject.
2. The theory of regions and their classification. Definition of the regions. Approaches to the regions. Characteristics of the regions. Classification of the regions in the European Union..
3. Regional disparities and their measurement. The theory of regional disparities. Classification of regional disparities. Indicators of regional disparities. Structural indicators of the European Union.
4. Regional development and regional policy. The theory of regional development. Factors of regional development. Theory of regional policy. The objectives and instruments of regional policy. The approaches to regional policy.
5. Development of regional policy in the European Union. The development of regional policy in selected EU members’ states (Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany…).
6. EU Regional Policy. The aim and objectives of EU Regional Policy. Principles of EU regional policy. Development of EU regional and structural policy.
7. Legislative and Institutional framework of EU Regional Policy. EU primary and secondary legislation of EU Regional Policy. Institutions of EU Regional Policy.
