1.To classify the stages of the international economic integration. 2.To identify the crucial integration tendencies in Europe. 3.To describe the development and the present situation of European integration processes (EU). 4.To apply the knowledge for the interpretation of the present situation in the EU.

Summary

The aim of the subject is to introduce students to current development of the integration process in Europe, especially to the conception, form and objective of the integration in the European Union. Emphasis will be laid on main historical aspects of integration, development of the EU and its institutions, law system, economic policy areas including Economic and Monetary Union. Students should also understand the aspects of coordination in the foreign and security area as well as the enlargement process with alignment to entry of the Czech Republic to the EU.

Subject syllabus:

1. Principles and main characteristics of the international economic integration, stages (levels) of the integration. 2. Development of integration in Europe, historical aspects. 3. European Union, evolution of the European Union, principles and purposes of integration in the EU. 4. Institutions and law, European Union institutions and other bodies, decision-making process in general. 5. Single European Market, mobility of the factors of production, competition policy. 6. EU budget – receipts and expenditures of the common budget. 7. Economic policy areas of the EU, common and coordinated policies. 8. Economic and social cohesion, regional development, social policy, environmental policy. 9. Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) – history, present, institutions, monetary policy of the ECB. 10. Common Foreign and Security policy, police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters. 11. Eastern enlargement of the European Union, political, economic and institutional problems of enlargement, Czech Republic and the EU. 12. Contemporary situation of integration in Europe, future development of the European Union - aspects of the political integration.
