Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

1. To describe the development and the state of the art of EU regional policy, its mechanisms and tools. 2. To explain the methodology and options of the use of EU strustural funds and other instruments in the regional development and their application under the condition of the Czech Republic. 3. To apply the knowledge gained for the solution of issues of EU social and economic cohesion.

Summary

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development of a basic set-up of EU Regional Policy and selected EU Member States. Students will be acquainted with the functioning of the mechanisms and instruments of EU Regional policy, the methodology and the use of EU Structural and Investment Funds and other instruments in regional development and their application in the Czech Republic and will be ready to solve problems within the issues of socio-economic cohesion of the European Union in the batechelor's degree level.

Theories of regional development. The types and instruments of regional policy. 4.Regional Development and Policy in Europe. Regional policy in selected European countries. Key milestones in the development of EU Regional policy. 5.Institutional framework of the EU Regional policy. Regional policy and coordination of EU structural instruments. Management of regional policy at EU level. 6.Instruments of the EU regional policy. Regional policy in the European Union. Financial instruments of EU regional policy. 7.EU Cohesion Policy in the programming period 2007-2013. The reform of the EU Cohesion policy. Cohesion policy objectives and initiatives for the period 2007-2013. The focus of assistance from the Structural Funds. 8.Pre-accession instruments in the EU Regional policy.
