Summary

Předmět Dějiny a současnost masových médií (metodologicky spadající do oblasti sociální historie) je úvodem do studia dějin a současnosti masových médií a podává přehled o hlavních vývojových etapách světových médií do konce 20. století v nejvyspělejších zemích v kontextu s vývojem médií na území dnešní ČR. Předmět se koncentruje na výklad nejvýznamnějších politických a sociálních, ale i technologických podmínek vývoje médií a na vybrané příklady vydavatelských a novinářských osobností, na směrodatná média a roli příjemců. Cíle předmětu Dějiny a současnost masových médií je na hlavních trendech ve vývoji periodického tisku, rozhlasu a televize nabídnout studentům profesní, sociální a politický kontext jejich budoucí práce a podpořit povědomí o historických souvislostech novinářství . Jádrem práce v kurzu je aplikace získaných poznatků o vývoji masových médií na současnou mediální situaci.

Subject syllabus:

1. Cultural and social consequences of the invention of book-printing for the modern society, the beginnings of printed periodicals in Europe 2. The beginnings of journalism in the context of society modernization (the origin of public sphere) 3. Periodical newspapers and journals and their readers in the17th, the18th and the 19th century in the advanced European countries and the U.S.A. 4. Alterations of journalism during the 19th century (from the development of mass press in France, England and the U.S.A. through the first news agencies to the Northcliff revolution) 5. Development of periodicals on the territory of the current Czech Republic (up to 1918) 6. Technical and social conditions of transmitting media origin (telegraph, telephone, radio broadcasting) 7. Political, economic and also cultural role of media in 1918-1945 in Europe and the U.S.A. 8. Development of the Czechoslovak media in the interwar period and in the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia 9. Political and social changes in the position of media in the second half of the 20th century on the example of selected countries 10. Character of changes in the structure of the Czechoslovak media development (1945-1968/69 and in the period of normalization in 1970-1989 11. Transformation of media and media system at the beginning of the nineties of the 20th century 12. The beginnings of new media and a shift in the position of mass media, trends in their development (the influence of globalization, co-modification, commercialization, concentration of ownership)
