to justify the main features of the postindustrial society to carry out a critical reflection of media role in the postindustrial society to evaluate new forms of communication in the postindustrial society to judge an interrelation between media and politicians

Summary

Předmět seznamuje studenty s hlavními rysy postindustriální společnosti, které jsou relevantní z hlediska studia médií. Důraz klade na kritickou reflexi úlohy médií v tomto typu společnosti, tak jak je obsažena zejména nejnovější anglosaské literatuře. Vysvětluje zvláštnosti struktury, působení a dopadu médií v tzv. společnosti sítí či ve společnosti s postmoderní kulturou. Všímá si nových forem komunikace a pozornost věnuje diskusím, které jejich nástup doprovázejí. Pozornost je věnována rovněž vztahu médií a politiky, médií a spotřeby, médií a vzdělání ve věku tzv. společnosti vědění. Je rozebrána řada dnes již klasických kritických textů především z oblasti americké a francouzské sociologie médií. Cílem je připravit studenty na mnohdy ambivalentní působení a dopady médií v postindustriální společnosti služeb. Ve výkladu jsou kromě aspektů sociologických zohledněny též prvky ekonomické a kulturologické.

Subject syllabus:

1. Acquainting students with the main features of postindustrial society which are relevant from the perspective of media study. 2. Critical reflection on the role of media in the society. 3. Particularities of the structure, media acting and impact in a so-called society of networks or in the society with postmodern culture. 4. New forms of communication in the society. 5. Relation of media and policy, media and consumption, media and education in the age of a so-called knowledge society 6. Analysis of classical critical texts especially from the area of American and French sociology of media.
