Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Students will acquire specific knowledge and skills:
- to define and understand the key terms and postulates in public economics;
- explain the behavior of entities and the main processes in the public sector;
- to evaluate and illustrate the findings on practical examples.
You will be able:
• to evaluate the position of the particular branches within the whole public sector,
• to identify the subjects participating on the provision of the public sector services,
• to judge the micro and macro economical connections and rational operating of the selected branches and segments of the public sector.
You will gain:
• knowledge in the structure of particular branches of the public sector,
• information on the possibilities of financing both from public and private resources,
• integrated view of the economics of the private and public sector in the particular branches.

Summary
The subject is focused on acquiring knowledge at the level of the basic postulates of public economics and represents the basic theoretical basis for the study of the program of public economy and administration. Increased attention is given to the causes and consequences of market failures; normative and positive starting points and forms of state intervention in the economy, including their failure; structure, size, efficiency of the public sector and basic functions of public finances.
