Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The main aim of the subject is to deepen the knowledge in the area of financial management and decision-making by applying methods, anaysis and approaches obtained by graduating this course.
Students will be able:
- to undertake deeper financial analysis of a firm,
- to evaluate investment projects under different financing situations,
- to evaluate financial performance of a firm,
- to compare and evaluate financial sources of a firm,
- to propose financial plan of a firm,
- to evaluate a firm.

Summary
This course is devoted to the key issues of the financial management of a company, particularly long-term financing of a company from theoretical and practical point of view, capital budgeting, financial sources analysis and financial plan proposal.

Subject syllabus:
1. Introduction to the financial management – goals, principles, relationship between profitability and liquidity, financial management matrix.
2. Time value of money and risk in financial management of a company – risks classification, approaches to risk elimination and reduction.
3. Risk management – risk measurements, risk analysis of investment projects.
4. Capital budgeting – definition, investment strategies, investment classification, stages of investment process.
5. Investment projects valuation – estimation of parameters of investment projects, (cash flows, cost of capital, life-span, net present value).
6. Rules for investment project valuation – with respect to time (static, dynamic).
7. Rules for investment project valuation – with respect to the benefits for company.
8. Long-term financing of a company. Description of internal sources of company financing.
9. External sources of company financing – shares, bonds, bank loans. Pluses and minuses of particular sources. Tax shield.
10. Leasing – legal and tax aspects of leasing, types of leasing, advantages, disadvantages.
11. Other external sources of company´s capital - forfaiting, project financing, risk capital.
12. Financial planning – fundamentals, rules for financial planning, relationship between business and financial plan, structure of financial plan.
13. Short-term and long-term financial planning.
