Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to introduce the students the selected issues of the financial management and financial decision-making. Students will be able: - to understand the principles of Corporate Governance, - to undertstand and apply the methods of capital budgeting, - to quantify the cost of capital, - to apply the costing techniques, - to understand and apply selected techniques of working capital management.

Summary

This course develops selected financial issues taught within the course Financial Reporting including some new issues necessary for financial management. Attention is paid particularly to the financial analysis, costing, financial planning and valuation.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction to the financial management. 2. Corporate Governance - introduction, systems, methods, procedures and relationships. 3. Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) - introduction, stages, implementation. 4. Capital budgeting - introduction, stages, project cash flows estimation for leveraged/unleveraged project. 5. Capital budgeting - criteria, decision rules, sensitivity analysis, appraisal of mutually exclusive projects. 6. Operating cycle of a company and its analysis. 7. Working capital management. 8. Operating, financial and total leverage of a company. 9. Cost of capital - introduction, cassification, factors affecting costs of capital. 10. Cost of capital - quantification of cost of equity, cost of debt, tax shield. 11. Theory of the capital structure optimization. 12. Costs and costing - introduction, costs classification. 13. Costing techniques - application of selected costing techniques. 14. Financial risk management - introduction, description of selected tools and techniques of financial risk management.
