Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the subject is to acquire basic knowledge and skills in the area of design and implementation of relational database applications. The subject should familiarize students with the SQL language and with basic database objects such as table, view, stored procedure or trigger. Students will verify acquired knowledge on the DBMS Microsoft Office Access and Microsoft SQL Server.

Summary

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Credit: - active participation in exercises (60%), - processing of project according to the required structure and its defense, - test, - obtaining at least 23 points out of 45. Exam: - oral - questions from the given topics in LMS Moodle.

Students have all presentations, assignments and exercises data in LMS Moodle.

Other requirements

Active participation in exercises. Elaboration and defense of project with respect to the required structure and its inserting into the LMS Moodle. Successful passing the test.

Subject syllabus:

1. Data modeling and design of data structures. 2. Relationships' normalization. 3. Creation of tables in the design view of MS Access. 4. SQL - Data Definition Language. 5. Selection queries in the design view of MS Access. 6. SQL - SELECT command. 7. Built-in SQL functions and views. 8. GUI creation in Access - forms and reports. 9. SQL - INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE commands. 10. Transactions. 11. Programmable SQL objects - user functions, stored procedures and triggers. 12. Creating a database application in MS Access.
