Summary

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the function and structure of computer software, architecture of operating systems and the grounding of communication with them. Furthermore, it provides the basic orientation in possibilities and requirements for standard applications programming packages.

Subject syllabus:

1. Components of information systems - an introduction to the topic 2. Functional characteristics of the computer modules 3. System Software 4. Operating Systems - principles of work, used algorithms, client-server architecture, open systems 5. Unix Operating Systems 6. Operating systems like Windows 7. The use of external sources of information, principles of computer networks -Internet, Intranet, Extranet 8. Types of Office applications software, CAD, GIS, CASE, EIS, database systems, DTP 9. Basic computer components and their characteristics 10. The logical structure of the microprocessor, evaluation and types of microprocessors 11. Communication with the microcontroller environment, characteristics and parameters of data bus 12. Physical and logical organization of memory PC 13. Physical and logical structure of a hard disk, how to work with hard disk 14. The basic properties of compact discs and standards 15. Characteristics and types of monitors 16. Characteristics and types of modems
