To be able to process larger amounts of data using totals or pivot tables of Microsoft Excel. To understand the difference between a databases in Microsoft Excel and Access. To design relational databases. To use statements SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE of SQL language. To create database applications in Microsoft Office Access.

Summary

The aim of subject is to extend the knowledge and skills in the areas of business data processing on a PC using a spreadsheet and DBMS (using of MS Excel and MS Access is supposed). In MS Excel, students will be introduced to the processing of large amounts of data using subtotals, pivot tables or charts, PowerPivot or Power BI add-ins. In Microsoft Access, students will be learned to create a databases, to query data of the databases or to create a simple graphical user interface.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Evaluation of acquired knowledge and skills is verified by the test (26 - 55 points) and the project (25 - 45 points). The test verifies basic understanding of Excel and Access. The project verifies the ability to create a simple database application in Access. It is submitted to LMS Moodle.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1) Working with lists in MS Excel. 2) Pivot tables and charts in MS Excel. 3) Design of relational databases. 4) Creating tables in MS Access. 5) Querying in MS Access. 6) Basic statements of SQL Language. 7) Creating graphical user interface in MS Access.
