Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

To clarify development of the European Union with emphasis to the labour markets - to compare the models of labour markets in the EU members - to identify differences between EU labour markets and other countries - to dramatise the transfer from the pasive to the active labour market policy and other changes in the structure of labour market

Summary

The course provides detail knowledge on labour markets in European union and EU countries, the evolution of integration process in EU from the beginning of 80-ties and the contemporary development trends. Executive summary of the political and economic context of implementation of Employment Guidelines is involved. Deep comparisons of labour market models of EU countries and also with other developed countries are provided together with assessment of performances and policies per selected member states - impact evaluation of the European Employment Strategy.

Sectoral employment trends • Best employment performing sectors • Sectoral employment performance by level of skills and education • Sectoral structure and employment performance 3. Structural changes in the European labour markets • Employment and participation dynamics, the cyclical behaviour of employment, labour force and unemployment • The effect of upturns and downturns on employment, labour force and unemployment • The role of temporary contracts, part time jobs 4. Evidence on long-term trends in the labour market • The impact of demographic changes on employment, unemployment and participation rates • The impact of changes in the skills structure of the working age population on employment, participation and unemployment 5. Flexicurity – conditions, development, implementation 6. Performance gaps between European regions • Regional disparities, regional disparities • Employment rate, unemployment rate • Indicators adopted in the classification of regions, groups of European regions • Different patterns of utilisation of resources, productivity and employment contributions to growth 7.
