- to define the Czech economic system before and after 1989; - to outline the Czech demographic development in the economic context; - to recognise changes of the Czech living standard; - to present basic macroeconomic indicators; - to describe sectors of economy.

Summary

1. Economic systems: Comparison of the centrally planned economy and free market economies – case of the Czech Republic (CR); 2. Introduction to economic demography: Population structure, basic demographic characteristics and process (fertility, natality, mortality, morbidity, migration) and their trends in the CR and the EU; 3. Population projections: Future situation in the CR and the EU, problem of demographic aging and economic consequences – social system etc.; 4. Human capital and labor force: Employment and unemployment in the CR and the EU, causes and impact of unemployment, unemployment rate and economic growth; 5. Quality of life: Education and health care, environment in the CR; 6. Living standards: Household Budget Survey – expenditures and consumption of Czech households, comparison of living standards in the past and today; 7. Macroeconomic level of the Czech economy: GDP, inflation rate, business cycle, international comparison and forecasts; 8. Public sector in the CR: Taxes, state budget, government revenue and expenditure, public debt – connection with economic growth, unemployment, social system and demographic trend; 9. International trade and balance of payments: Export and import structure of the Czech trade, tourism trade etc.; 10. Industry structure of the CR (Classification of Economic Activities CZ-NACE): Agriculture and natural resources, transport and energy – resources and new trends; 11. Industry and construction, housing, road-traffic infrastructure – connection with population trends, economic growth, unemployment etc.; 12. Services in the CR: retail trade, financial services, information and communication services etc. 13. International comparison of the Czech Republic.
