Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will become familiar with the essence of management and the functioning of the organization. They will learn a systemic approach to solving organizational and strategic problems in a company (organization). They will learn to understand these problems in relation to each other. They will be able to formulate, analyze and solve problems based on real data. They will be able to process and interpret the information needed for business management.

Summary

The aim of the subject is to familiarize with the essence of the management and functioning of the organization and, based on a systemic approach, to learn to understand problems in mutual contexts. Furthermore, master the methods, techniques and tools for their search, formulation and solution.

Subject syllabus:

1. Organization theory and management theory – subject, research, methods and development. Basic terminology: organization, subject, object, strategy, management. 2. System approach, system engineering, system analysis and synthesis. Basic terminology: problem, system, element, model. Data, information, knowledge - examples and differences. Information pyramid. 3. The process of organizing at the enterprise level. Enterprise as a system - internal elements and elements of the environment. Life cycle of an organization. Organizational structures. 4. Organizational problems and their solutions. Problem solving phase. The importance of information in the problem solving process. 5. Mind maps and SW tools supporting creation and problem solving. Team problem solving. 6. Management and decision-making in the organization. Strategic analysis - PEST and SWOT analysis. 7. Management and decision-making in the organization. Strategy creation. The BSC method. 8. Evaluation of effectiveness and efficiency in the organization - methods, tools, SW support. 9. Data organization – data set structure, types of variables, first degree sorting, frequency distribution table, graphs. 10. Data file preparation – cleaning, coding of values, transformation of variables. Practical examples and exercises in SPSS. 11. Descriptive statistics. Exploratory analysis, unusual values, graphical representation of relationships between variables. 12. Hypothesis testing. Simple statistical induction problems. 13. Simple linear regression - essence, influential and outlier observations, interpolation, extrapolation. 14. Practical tasks from data analysis.
