Subject syllabus:
1. Introduction.
* The links, and exam requirements for offsetting, recommended literature.
2. Development of information systems conception.
* Anthony's paradigm, MIS and other types of information systems; definition of information systems, information technology and information management.
3. Information technology.
* Era of information technologies, Mc Kenney and Mc Farlan strategic grid.
4. Advanced relational data modelling.
* Multivalued dependency attributes, the fourth normal form, examples.
* The fifth normal form, join dependence, domain-key normal form.
5. Relational calculus and algebra.
* Definition, basic operations, examples of selections from the database
6. Object data modelling.
* Principles, basic constructors, methodological approaches to the data modelling, examples.
* Methodology UML, data modelling based on the class model.
7. Information technology.
* Overview of existing IT market, multimedia, electronic commerce, distance
education, internet, S-curve development.
8. Information Management
* Components of information management, definitions, basic functions, basic
frameworks of the strategic advantage gaining through IT.
9. Potential frameworks of strategic advantage.
* The concepts of systems analysis, application areas, and the concept of the business strategy (Porter), Wiseman's strategic option generator.
10. Positional frameworks.
* Strategic grid, sectoral differences, three levels of strategy, process
shaping the strategy, objectives and constraints, types of tasks.
11. IS planning methodology.
* Basic phases of their content, defining the detailed structure of the process and specification of individual steps.
