Subject syllabus:

1. BI tools, their structure, reasons to use them. Basic terms in the BI field, importance of BI for the company management. 2. Managerial applications Executive Information Systems (EIS), position of EIS in company's information system. EIS characteristics and its multidimensionality, multidimensionality in economic problems. 3. Data storage applications – data warehouses (DW), independent data marts, virtual DW, operational data store (ODS), data staging area (DSA). Principles of multidimensionality in data warehouses. Data mining. 4. Applications for gathering, transformation, cleaning and loading data – ETL (extraction, transformation, loading). Data quality, data profiling and data cleansing. Data pumps. Metadata. Master Data Management. 5. Components of a BI system in frame of its architecture, integration of the BI into enterprise information system. Integration nature of EIS and systems for application integration (EAI). 6. Business analytics – OLAP tools and ways of data manipulation in OLAP applications. Visualisation in the BI system. Data mining – techniques, tasks and tools, the role of mathematical models in the BI. 7. Categories of BI tools. Software tools for creation and administration of data warehouses and data marts. The offer of tools on the market. Selection criteria. 8. Basic typology of BI building approaches and development methodologies. Project team, roles in the BI project. BI and management of IT. Centralisation of planning and management of BI projects through BI competency center (BICC). 9. Lifecycle of the BI system: úvodní studie, strategie BI, „Plán trasy“ (roadmap), analýza požadavků, modelování a návrh datového skladu a datových pump. Implementace, provoz a řízení systému. 10. Parametry pro řízení systému BI. Kritické faktory úspěchu a ekonomika BI systému. Aktuální trendy v oblasti BI.
