After completing this subject, students will be able to understand and apply the following skills and topic areas: - design and assessment of concrete bridges; - fabrication and erection of concrete bridges; - drawing documentation of concrete bridges.

Summary

1. Progress on design of concrete bridges, calculation methods, design and comparison of methods. 2. Design of concrete elements according to allowable stress theory, bending, combination of compression and bending, shear. 3. Design of concrete bridges according to Eurocode 3, bending, combination of compression and bending, shear, torsion, principles of solution. 4. Interpretation of moving load, influence lines and areas, continuous beams and slabs. 5. Design of bridge substructures, abutments, wing walls, piers, pylons, bearing plate, bridge cross-over structures. 6. Culverts and stone, brick and unreinforced concrete bridges, principles of design. 7. Reinforced concrete slab bridges, principles of static and structural design. 8. Reinforced concrete beam bridges, principles of static and structural design. 9. Static solution and design of prefabricated bridges. 10. Pre-stressed concrete bridges, principles of static and structural design, pre-stressing procedure. 11. Design of bridges and its parts with regards to technology of fabrication, concreting on centring, cantilevered concreting and fabrication. 12. Rreinforced concrete arch, suspension and cable-stayed bridges, foot bridges. 13. Drawing documentation, principles of armouring. 14. Principles of design and static solutions of bridges on undermined and seismic ground.

Application of influence lines on continuous beam bridge with a several spans. 5. Practical design of reinforced concrete bridges according to Eurocode 3, bending, combination of compression and bending, shear, torsion, basic design principles. 6. Design of reinforced concrete slab bridge, preliminary design of deck and abutment. 7. Stability of abutments, design of wing slabs. 8. Design of foundation structures. 9. Drawing documentation, principles of armouring. 10. Design of pre-stressed beams bridge, transverse interaction of beams. 11. Design reinforced beam bridge, transverse interaction of beams. 12. Design of concrete beams at production, fabrication and operation stadiums. 13. Principles of armouring, reinforcement flow chart. 14. Recapitulation, consultation, credits.
