Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

After completing this subject, students will be able to understand and apply the following skills and topic areas: - design and assessment of simple load bearing reinforced concrete structures (slab and girder floor, balcony cantilever, stairs) - design of monolithic and prefabricated frame structures - simplified design of two-way slabs - design of plain and reinforced concrete foot foundation and foundation strip - design of concrete breast wall, repair, rehabilitation and reconstruction of foundations. - design and assessment of masonry structures

Summary

1. Basic load bearing reinforced concrete structures. 2. Monolithic frame structures. 3. Prefabricated structures, joints. 4. Filigreed structures 5. Two- way slabs, design, reinforcement configuration.. 6. Simplified design of continuous slabs. Simplified design of walls. 7. Reliability of subsoil and foundation structure. Types of concrete foundation. 8. Design of plain concrete and reinforced concrete foot and strip foundation. 9. Concrete breast wall. Structural stability assessment. 10. Repair, rehabilitation and reconstruction of foundations. 11. Masonry structures: introduction, material properties. 12. Masonry structures: walls in compression, design of slender masonry members. 13. Masonry structures: walls in bending and shear. 14. Repeating.

At least 70% attendance in the tutorial. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused and accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides the reasonableness of the excuse). Tasks assigned in tutorial must be hand in within the deadline set by the teacher.

Lectures: 1. Basic load bearing reinforced concrete structures. 2. Monolithic frame structures. 3. Prefabricated structures, joints. 4. Filigreed structures 5. Two- way slabs, design, reinforcement configuration.. 6. Simplified design of continuous slabs. Simplified design of walls. 7. Reliability of subsoil and foundation structure. Types of concrete foundation. 8. Design of plain concrete and reinforced concrete foot and strip foundation. 9. Concrete breast wall. Structural stability assessment. 10. Repair, rehabilitation and reconstruction of foundations. 11. Masonry structures: introduction, material properties. 12. Masonry structures: walls in compression, design of slender masonry members. 13. Masonry structures: walls in bending and shear. 14. Repeating. Tutorials: 1. Repetition – slab, beam, T-beam. 2. Stairs – loadings and internal forces (repetition), reinforcements. 3. Balcony – between beams, cantilever. Frame joints – example of solved frame and general principles of arrangement of reinforcements. 4. Assessment of prefabricated structure. 5. Two-ways slabs. Calculation of loadings and internal forces. 6. Continuous slab supported along perimeter. 7. Written test – slab. Wall. 8. Column footing made of plain concrete and reinforced concrete. 9. Punching of column footing. 10. Written test – column footing. Program consultation. 11. Design and assessment of concrete breast wall. 12. Written test – breast wall. Masonry column – compression. 13. Masonry wall – compression and bending. 14. Credits award.
