Summary

The student will be acquainted with the design of steel and composite steel and concrete bridges and other related parts. Attention is paid to the actions on bridges, bridges design principles, spatial layout, bridge deck, equipment of bridges, design of bearings and expansion joints. Theoretical knowledge is supported by practical examples of the design of beam and truss bridges, attention is paid to the spatial interaction of bridges and the theory of beam girder. Special chapters are the designs of oblique bridges, arched bridges, arch, cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Typical details, fatigue of steel structures, production and assembly of these structures are also discussed. The knowledge of statics of structures, elasticity and plasticity, design principles of steel structures and construction of bridge structures is assumed.
