Student will acquire the following skills and knowledge after completing the subject: - design and assessment of timber bridge structures, - manufacture, assembly and diagnostics of wooden bridge structures, - drawing documentation of timber bridge structures.

Summary

Within this course students will be acquainted with the problems of timber bridge structures: types of timber bridge structures, timber-concrete bridge structures, diagnostics and remediation of bridge structures. The content of tutorials is static design and assessment of selected bridge structures according to valid European standards.

At least 70% attendance in the tutorial. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused and accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides the reasonableness of the excuse). Tasks assigned in tutorial must be hand in within the deadline set by the teacher.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1. Historical development of designs of timber bridge structures and contemporary structures. 2. Timber as material for the construction of exterior structures. 3. Types of bridge structures. 4. Superstructure of bridge and deck plates, bridge equipment, bearings, bridge deck joints. 5. Bridge structures with element deck plates. 6. Laminated deck plates bridges. 7. Timber – concrete bridge structure. 8. Durability of timber bridge structures. 9. Deteriorations of timber bridges. 10. Diagnostics and remediation of timber brides.
