Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Within the framework of the subject “Metal and composite structures”, students will be acquainted with advanced approaches to design, reliability assessment and realization of metal and composite structures of traffic, building and industrial constructions. Students have to obtain and demonstrate a sufficient general overview about the metal and composite structures. Students will also receive an individual project in relation to the theme of the dissertation.

Subject syllabus:

Structure of the subject (a specific topic will be selected depending on the student's dissertation theme): - Advanced modelling of metal and composite structures – nonlinear analyses of structures (geometrically nonlinear elastic analysis (GNA), linear elastic bifurcation analysis (LBA), materially nonlinear analysis (MNA), geometrically and materially nonlinear analysis (GMNA), geometrically nonlinear elastic analysis with imperfections included (GNIA), geometrically and materially nonlinear analysis with imperfections included (GMNIA)). - Assessment of structural details of metal and composite constructions using finite element method modelling. - Structural analysis including real working of the joints. - Design assisted by testing (realization and evaluation of the planned experiments according to EN 1990). - Service life of metal and composite structures (corrosion resistance of structures, fatigue resistance, the possibility of applying the fracture mechanics). - Use of structural glass in an interaction with a metal structure. - Economic comparison of the various design, production, assembly and operation options of buildings designed with the metal or composite load-carrying structure.
